Non-Executive Expert Advisors
NON-EXECUTIVE EXPERT ADVISORS
The British Union Conference (BUC) of Seventh-day Adventists is excited to extend invitations for application to members willing to serve as Non-Executive Expert Advisors (NEEA) to our trustee board (commonly referred to as the Executive Committee).
The BUC functions as the delegated authority on behalf of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, enabling the creation of policies and practice within our context across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and all adjacent British islands. Operating as a church, charity and corporation, our unique structure within the BUC requires strong attention across all three of these strategic areas to be able to comply with legislation, operate according to best practice, and provide guidance to the conferences and missions.
As a NEEA to the Executive Committee, you’ll play a pivotal role in the Executive Committee’s governance of the BUC across its territory, providing specialist advice and guidance. Your contributions will be instrumental in sharing good governance practices, supporting the vision and the future of the BUC, and driving positive change in line with our organisational strategic plan.
There are five areas of expertise that we are currently seeking to strengthen our board:
Legal
Compliance & Audit
People
Safeguarding
Assets & Investments.
These NEEA’s to the board come as a result of the recommendations following the State of the Union Townhall meeting held last year. As the Executive Committee of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the BUC territory, we are seeking applicants who are sympathetic to the ethics and doctrines of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Based on our value proposition, details pertaining to the expected education, experience, and expertise of applicants, along with the key responsibilities, are available for each NEEA application pack on the link below.
Applications are welcome from individuals who are not employed by the entities (BUC, SEC, NEC, IM, SM, WM), employed by affiliated institutions, or currently serving Executive Committee members.
Term: Roles are fixed-term appointments and will be effective until 2026, which is the end of the current BUC quinquennium.
Commitment: In-person attendance at quarterly Executive Committee meetings will be required, as well as ad-hoc extraordinary meetings taking place outside of regular quarterly meetings.
Employment type: This is a voluntary role.
Application deadline: Applications are open until the end of 2024 and successful applicants will be contacted in the new year of 2025.
